Working together to raise standards

What We do

What We doOur work is divided into two areas – frontline and strategic.  Our frontline services include:

  • Face-to-face and telephone interpreting
  • Translation and proofreading (including certified translation)
  • Training for interpreters and users of interpreters
  • Consultancy relating to public service interpreting & translation

We cover a wide range of languages for both interpreting and translation in all types of settings and for all sectors. Operating a Scotland-wide service, we have interpreters, translators and delivery partners in locations throughout Scotland.  We will always endeavour to send interpreters nearest to you to minimise travel costs and environmental impact.  We also only employ interpreters and translators who are based in Scotland because we believe they are best suited to do the job due to their knowledge of Scotland and its systems and structures.

We believe training is a crucial element in raising standards. We will be developing a range of training services for training interpreters and users of interpreters. With an in-depth knowledge and understanding of Scotland's public service interpreting landscape, we also offer consultancy support to help drive improvements in this area.

Guided by our vision, mission and values, our strategic work includes:

  • Raising standards and quality in public service interpreting and translation nationally;
  • Developing collaborative working among public and third sector service providers in Scotland;
  • Raising the profile of the interpreting and translation profession;
  • Investing in training and nurturing the next generation of public service interpreters and translators;
  • Enabling the sharing of information and good practice between service providers and among public bodies;
  • Working with the government and public bodies to address key issues within current interpreting and translation service provision in Scotland.
